A recent study from Colorado has shown that people who use cannabis recreationally where more likely to need larger doses of anesthesia for their procedures. Patients who underwent a colonoscopy required twice as much propofol for their sedation to keep them comfortable. These patients also needed more fentanyl and versed for a successful outcome. As we start seeing the use of Cannabis among the regular population it is important that patients inform their anesthesia caregivers to better plan for their surgery.
